Packaging guidelines for Buybacks and Returns

In order to ensure the safe arrival of your buyback, we've come up with a few common sense packaging recommendations. These suggestions are based on the methods our customers have successfully used to pack their books. A little common sense goes a long way!

  • Pack your books tightly in a heavy duty shipping type carton. You can purchase such containers at a local U-Haul outlet or other businesses that sell shipping or moving supplies (ask the clerk for help). Or, just use a sturdy container that you might have handy.
  • If you're returning a book and the carton you received is still in good condition (not excessively worn, wet, missing chunks, or otherwise damaged), then you're free to use the same carton. Please note, that if your book arrived in an envelope or bubble mailer, we do not recommend re-using it, since they do not hold up well with multiple uses and your book could be lost in transit.
  • Lay books flat in the container with the spine of the book facing outward. Do not stand books upright.
  • Secure all remaining open areas of the container, including the top, with ample packing material. We suggest styro-foam peanuts or bubble wrap
  • If you can hear or feel the contents move inside when you lightly shake the box, then you need more packing material. Lack of adequate packing material often lead to books arriving damaged when shipped. Bookstores.com and Bookstores.com booksellers are not responsible for damages incurred when you pack and ship books.
  • Attach the shipping label on top of your package. If you are returning a book, you will need to provide your own shipping label. If you are sending in a buyback, Bookstores.com will provide you with a prepaid shipping label.
  • Seal your box package with a heavy duty shipping tape. We suggest sealing all seams, plus, applying two strips around the perimeter of the container for extra support. DO NOT use masking or scotch tape.
  • You MUST include all applicable CDs, disks, booklets and other text supplements with your shipment to ensure proper credit.
  • REMEMBER--IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO PACK YOUR BOOKS IN A DURABLE CONTAINER WITH AMPLE PACKING MATERIAL AND SEAL THOROUGHLY WITH SHIPPING TAPE!
  • Any items received that can't be sold (either because they're not in good condition, books that differ then what was entered into the quote, because they were damaged during transit, or were different than what was originally shipped) will be destroyed. If a package is not received / received missing contents, you will be paid for that return or buyback. It is your responsibility to ensure safe delivery of the package to our warehouse. We are not responsible for lost, damaged, or missing books.
